Why Your Everyday Women’s Magazine Is A Perfect Example

Let’s take the cover of a typical women’s magazine (like the ones you probably LOVE reading) as an example.

First, there’s always a provocative picture of a drop-dead gorgeous celebrity with the perfect body. Any flaws she may have are always “photoshopped” or airbrushed out. This teaches women they have to be perfect and flawless to be desired by men.

Second, one of the cover stories almost always talks about diets, weight loss, or exercise routines. Think headlines like, “5 Ways To Thin Up Your Thighs For Summer” or “The Celebrity Weight Loss Secret That Will Help You Shed 10 Pounds In 2 Weeks” or “The Breakthrough Discovery That Will Give You The Sexy Bikini Butt Your Girlfriends Would Die For”. This teaches women that men only want and desire skinny swimsuit models and helps crush the self esteem of any woman who isn’t a size 4 or smaller.

Is this every man's ideal woman? Nope.

So why do magazines do this? Because celebrities, weight loss, and sex fascinate people.

They make money. They sell magazines. But they give women a really horrible perception of what men really want.

It’s certainly not your fault, but when you base your entire perception of men on what you read in these magazines (like many women do) then you come to the conclusion that what men want in a woman is an attractive super model with the perfect body who spends 20 hrs of the day at the gym, eats nothing but crackers and water, and has the sex drive of a pygmy chimpanzee (bonobo) (crazy to think that humans aren’t the most sexual beings on the planet, isn’t it?).

In other words, if you’re smoking hot and unbelievable in the bedroom, then you can catch and keep any many you want. This is absolutely untrue.

I’m not saying these things don’t matter to men, but no man will fall in love with you or want to spend the rest of his life with you based on these things alone. Click here if you want to know what really makes a man commit to a woman long term.

When it comes to attracting men, it’s not about one personal characteristic that you may or may not have. It comes down to the total package. This principle is one of the most powerful dating secrets in the world and if you remember anything from this article, remember this…

It’s like a round of golf. You may have sucked and been horrible on individual holes, but if your overall score is good, you win. Likewise, when it comes to attracting men, having a lot of good qualities will always TRUMP having just one or two AMAZING qualities and a bunch of bad ones.

And that’s precisely why you shouldn’t worry or let your self esteem drop if you’re not a perfect “10″ on the hotness scale, are shy and reserved in the bedroom, or are unable to fit into a size 0 mini skirt.

Explaining what men want in a relationship is a vast topic that’s impossible for me to cover in just one blog post, but there are some really great resources out there that I highly recommend if you’re tired of drama filled relationships and truly want to understand men. This is one of my favorites.

With that being said, let me go over a few quick things that matter to men when it comes to finding a woman they would walk barefoot over broken glass to be with.

6 Things Men Want In Relationships

Here are 6 things that matter to men. Keep in mind this list is in no particular order.

1.) A Woman Who “Complements” A Man, Not One Who He “Completes”

One of the most damaging movie lines ever to the psyche of women was the most famous line from Jerry Maguire. Do you remember it? It was when Tom Cruise said, “You complete me.” My friend, Paige Parker, talks about it here in this video.

What men want is a woman who is a complete person on her own. In Girl Gets Ring, a guide that teaches women how to get total devotion and commitment from a man, author TDub Jackson calls this, “being a whole person in the present” and goes on to say…

“Understanding that if you feel like you need someone to complete you (see phase 1) your odds of attracting and being attracted to a jerk skyrocket. The antidote is to be completely okay with the woman you are without a partner. Desiring a partner who is complementary is fine and is HEALTHY and is the foundation of making good decisions (even with all that chemistry bubbling) about whom you choose to spend the rest of your life with.”

Men want a woman who has her own life and who can be happy with or without him. Guys want a woman to be their “complement” (not to be confused with compl-i-ment, although guys like those too).

They don’t want a relationship where they have to “complete” a woman. They don’t want a woman who they feel like they have to “entertain”.

Be a complete woman with or without a man in your life...

Always remember, you WANT a man in your life. You don’t NEED a man in your life.

Incomplete women have low self esteem, lack confidence, and tend to be needy, clingy, and totally insecure. Talk about total man repellant.

2.) Sex

I’d be lying and doing everyone a huge injustice if I said men don’t like sex or left it off the list. The truth is most men love sex and knowing how to touch a guy and turn him on is a great skill to have.

But remember, sex is just one small factor. Most men are completely capable of sleeping with a woman they have no emotional attachment to, so if you’re thinking about sleeping with a guy to get him to like you or to keep him around, DON’T!

His willingness to sleep with you isn’t an indicator that he’s “totally into you”. Just being great at sex will never make a man fall in love and commit to you long term.

Oh, and did I mention most women love sex too. People tend to forget this for some reason.

3.) A Woman With Motherly Instincts

Call it DNA. Call it biology. Call it whatever you want, but men do think about this sort of thing.

Do you have what it takes to be a good mother? Are you loving and nurturing? Do you care about people? Do you treat people with respect or say nasty things behind their back and try to start a bunch of drama?

Guys take notice of this sort of thing and it can make a difference in whether he perceives you as “just another fling” or “the one”. We don’t want you to treat us like a baby, but we do love to be nurtured.

4.) Intelligence

Intelligence, just like confidence, is SUPER SEXY.

Don’t hide your intelligence, but don’t flaunt it over your man either or you could intimidate him. If you’re acting like Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory, then you may need to tone it down a little.

5.) A Woman With Similar Interests

This one is pretty self explanatory, but you’re more likely to catch the attention of a man who has similar interests to you. This doesn’t mean a guy wants a woman who likes EVERYTHING he does. In fact it’s great when you can share new experiences with each other.

But obviously if a man’s favorite thing in the world is being up in the mountains snowboarding and you absolutely can’t stand the snow, then there’s the potential for a lot of conflict in the relationship no matter how much you like each other.

And, as a word of caution, I don’t recommend pretending to like something a guy likes just to get him interested in you. This strategy never works out long-term. But here’s one that does.

6.) A Woman Who Won’t Judge

Ok, I’ll admit, guys have a lot of strange interests and passions. We do stupid stuff (get a bunch of us together and it’s even worse).

In fact, sometimes our ideas are completely silly and make no sense whatsoever. But we want a woman who will support us and believe in us anyway (even if we suddenly want to become a rock star at age 45).

What men want in a woman is someone who makes him feel safe. Men want to know they can be themselves around you without being judged (even if you think our ideas or dreams are total nonsense).

Guys have a deep biological need to be successful. It’s why we compete at…well…EVERYTHING. And most of us feel judged all the time.

So when we have a woman by our side who comforts and makes us feel safe to be ourselves (regardless of our passion) rather than judging us, saying how disappointed she is, or making us feel stupid, then she becomes addicting.

Of course, use some good common sense here. If your man suddenly gets the idea to assassinate the President, clearly it’s not ok to support him.

6 Reasons Why He’s Not Your Boyfriend Right Now

If you’re trying to figure out how to get a guy to be your boyfriend, then today is a great day to take some notes as I reveal a few of the most common factors that keep a man from committing and moving a relationship forward.

If your guy keeps giving you excuses (and that’s exactly what they are…excuses), then there’s a good chance at least one, and probably several, of the following factors are at play.

Let’s get to it…

1.) Bye Bye Options

If you want to learn how to get a guy to be your boyfriend, the first thing you should understand is virtually all men have the fantasy of being the “alpha male” who can sleep with any woman they want. It’s deeply rooted in their biology.

Call it ego-satisfying variety if you will. A guy may not be the alpha stud right now but many guys feel if they were just taller, had more money, faster cars, a bigger house, a larger penis, then they’d get all the hot chicks they could handle.

Is it silly? Yep, but it’s not unlike the unrealistic fantasy a lot of women have about finding a Prince Charming who will be so in love and so smitten by her that he will never even look at or think about being with another woman.

Committing to a relationship (heaven forbid) means killing that fantasy for a lot of guys, especially when it comes to thinking about something like marriage.

2.) Putting Yourself In The Friends Or “Friends With Benefits” Zone Early On

Moving to a sexual relationship too soon can kill your chance for commitment...

Not wanting to lose him or be away from him, you make the mistake of saying something like, “That’s cool! I don’t really want a boyfriend right now either” when deep down its killing you not to be his girlfriend.

As soon as you do this, you make him view you as a woman he can fool around with and have fun with, but who he doesn’t have to commit to. Even if down the road you do things that make it very clear you want something more, he probably won’t notice and will continue playing by the first “set of rules”.

It will be extremely hard to get him to change the status quo. After all, why would he want to? He gets to spend time with an incredible and beautiful woman (and possibly even have sex with her) while still being able to go out and date anyone else he wants. In his mind, he’s struck gold.

3.) He’s Been Hurt By Commitment Before

This is usually most prevalent with men who have gone through (and been completely destroyed by) a divorce, but it can also occur with men who have been cheated on or who have been with women who manipulated them, controlled them, or just plain treated them awful. (Guys aren’t the only ones who can be scumbags you know.)

If your man has been burned by commitment before, then it will be much harder to turn him into your boyfriend or husband. To do so, these type of men usually need to feel like there’s a chance they might lose you before they’ll take action to keep you.

4.) He’s A Player

This one is pretty simple. If you’re dating a true player, then he may have no intention of ever committing to anyone.

Some guys don’t want a family, don’t want to be married, are perfectly happy playing the field, sleeping with lots of women, and they have no intention of ever changing that. And they may even be honest and upfront with you about that from the get go.

Unfortunately, many women still get involved with this type of man and mistakenly think they are going to be “the woman who changes him”. You’re better off to just move on.

5.) He’s Already Taken

It’s possible to get involved with a man who is already taken. Maybe he already has a girlfriend. Maybe he even has a wife and a family.

My advice: don’t get involved with a man who is already taken. Period.

“Being the “other woman” sucks. There are plenty of awesome single guys out there, and even though a guy will undoubtedly enjoy having two women fight over him, in the end he’s probably going to stay with the woman he already has. It is 100% possible for a guy to be in love with one woman and still sleep with another woman. And being that “other woman” is awful for your self esteem, awful for your social life, and awful for your overall feeling of morality. No matter what he tells you, or no matter how bad he says things are at home, walk away and find somebody single. Don’t be that girl. You’re going to lose.”

6.) Does He Consider You “Girlfriend Material”

Lastly, to make him be your boyfriend, you need to understand that love, attraction, and being good in bed aren’t enough to make a man commit (despite what the tabloids want you to believe). Just like you probably have a list of traits that make a man “boyfriend material”, guys also look for certain things that make a woman “girlfriend material”.

This varies from man to man and most guys don’t sit down and write out an actual list of traits like many women have been known to do, but unconsciously you need to fit his criteria of a girlfriend if you want to get him to be your boyfriend.

Factors that play a role in his decision can include things like…

• Your attractiveness (both how attractive he thinks you are and how attractive he thinks other guys think you are)
• Your confidence and self esteem
• Your intelligence
• Your emotional stability or lack thereof
• Your neediness or clinginess
• Your sexual abilities
• Your motherly instincts
• The way you interact with and treat others
• Whether or not he feels like he can be the REAL HIM around you without being judged and without you trying to change him

That last concept of the “REAL HIM” is a critical one and one that’s extremely important to understand if you want to get a guy to commit. You’ll understand it a lot better if you watch this video by my buddy TDub Jackson.

Does this mean we are all bad people? Of course not. It simply means we are human.

Most of these lies are harmless. You know, the proverbial “little white lie” spoken with the best of intentions. Things like…

• “No honey, of course your butt doesn’t look big in those jeans.”
• “I LOVE when your parents come and stay with us for the week.”
• “Nothing’s wrong. I’m fine sweetie.”

I’m sure you get the point.

But some lies are so big, so pervasive, so utterly destructive, that they can completely sabotage relationships between even the most compatible couples.

It happens all the time. It could be happening to you.

So what are these destructive lies that can tear a relationship apart? Which one is most destructive?

• Is it claiming to be in a committed, monogamous relationship when you’re really out seeing other people?

• Is it keeping things from your past a secret? Stuff like how many other people you’ve been with or whether or not you’ve been married and divorced previously?

• Is it pretending to have the same interests and beliefs as your man just to get him to like you? For example, pretending to love watching football games on Sunday afternoons when really you can’t stand the sport.

• Is it saying those three amazing words…“I love you”…just to keep from hurting someone you really aren’t sure about?

These are all really great guesses, but they are all wrong.

These types of lies can certainly be destructive, buy my good friend and world-renowned relationship expert Paige Parker believes there is a different lie which is the number one killer of relationships.

Worst of all, it’s not even told by the man…or the woman…in the relationship. It’s told by SOCIETY and pulled over our heads like a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

• Why does he get so quiet?

• Will he love me forever?

And the men (21,412 were surveyed), notorious for closing down when it comes to sharing feelings and emotions, suddenly opened their hearts and chimed in.

Honestly, at the time I don’t think these men realized their answers would be shared with women, so they dropped their guard and revealed the things they usually reserve for talking “man to man”. Many men are afraid of the emotional consequences of revealing this stuff directly to a woman…and that’s exactly why this information is invaluable to any woman who gets her hands on it while Michael still has it up.

The men responded with things like:

The author, Michael Fiore, is a controversial figure because he likes to “stir the pot” and tends to tell it like it is. He’s definitely NOT boring. I’ve learned that from reading his stuff and getting to know him personally.
